You wedding is one of the most important days of your life, and you will only get one shot at recording the day, so you need to get it right. There are all sorts of things which you need to consider when hiring a photographer, but here are perhaps the four most important questions you need to ask.
Does Your Chosen Venue Restrict Photography?
Some churches, and other official wedding venues, may place restrictions on the use of cameras, including video, and so you will need to plan around this. If the restrictions at your chosen venue allow you very little scope for recording the event, you might decide to record only the reception afterwards.
How Experienced Is The Photographer?
Wedding photography is big business these days, and a lot of people have jumped onto the bandwagon. It is important, therefore, that you hire someone who knows what they are doing, and who has a reasonable amount of experience, not just as a photographer, but as a wedding photographer. Many amateur photographers could probably do a very good job of photographing a wedding, and you might be tempted to pick a young newcomer, perhaps to help his business along, and to save yourself a little money. However, things do not always go according to plan and, when the unexpected happens, you will be very glad that you hired someone with the experience to work around whatever problems come his way.
How Good Is The Photographer?
Experience is important, but it does not necessarily mean that a photographer is any good. He might have photographed hundreds of weddings, but how good a job did he do, and how happy were his customers?
Any photographer worth his salt will be more than happy to show you examples of his work, so ask to see pictures from several recent weddings that he photographed. Also, do not be afraid to ask him for testimonials. Is he happy to show you recent correspondence from satisfied customers, or to let you talk to recent clients?
Does The Photographer Offer A Package To Suit Your Budget?
With so many things to pay for on your special day, everything, including your photographer, has to be carefully budgeted. A good photographer will, of course, be only too aware of this and will offer a range of different packages. Ask about the different packages available, and satisfy yourself that the photographer can meet both your needs and your budget.
